Question 1

My key snapped and part of it is still in there. Is the lock ruined?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. A broken key can often be extracted and a new one cut from the remaining part or from the lock itself. Leave it alone. Most replacements started as a quick job somebody forced.

Question 2

Can a safe or a file cabinet be opened?

Accepted Answer

Usually, though it depends on the make and the locking method. Mention the make and roughly how old it is when you call, and the right gear comes with the technician.

Question 3

Is the line open after hours?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Baywood Locksmith & Key runs around the clock, including weekends and public holidays. The phone line keeps the same hours as lockouts: all of them.

Question 4

Do you come out to rental units and apartment buildings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Lockouts, rekeys and mailbox locks in apartment buildings are regular work.

Question 5

Is rekeying enough, or do the locks have to go?

Accepted Answer

In most cases yes. Rekeying leaves the lock in place and changes which key works it, the normal choice after moving in or losing a key. Replacing makes sense when the hardware is damaged or worn, and rarely otherwise.

Question 6

How fast can someone get to me?

Accepted Answer

We give you a time window when you call, and a message if it moves. Arrival depends on where you are and the traffic, so you get an honest window from the dispatcher instead of a figure invented for a web page.
